So I finally signed a lease and I will get the apartment on Thursday! I also bought a new bed which will be delivered to my new apartment. Apparently, being Jewish and Israeli is a big plus in Brookline (and also my big round smiley face!).
The company that owns the building had a problem with the fact that I don't have a credit history in the US and that I don't earn enough for their building. So the real estate agent brought me to their office. I was welcomed with the words "Shalom doctor" - yes, the guy there was a Jew and he was really interested in what I do, so after a few minutes of science talk (with no real scientific substance to it) I got the apartment.
As for the bed - the sells person found out I'm Israeli, and surprise surprise, he is married to an Israeli. So I checked out different mattresses and beds and he said "tell me which on you want and how much you want to pay". I picked a mattress that costs $500 (a really comfortable one) and I said I am willing to pay $500 for the mattress + box + frame (the beds here have a mattress laying on top of a big padded box on a frame, there are hardly any beds like in Israel). The price for the whole thing + tax + delivery was $800, so after some persuasion from my side and a long talk on politics, he called the main office and got the OK to get me the whole package AFTER tax and delivery for $500.
Also, the owner of the B&B where I am staying drove me around Brookline, Boston and Cambridge yesterday, and then she took me to Target (a huge warehouse of stuff for home) just to get me some bedsheets. She also gave me towels and dishes for my new place. She's so nice.
So I'm getting along, got the apartment, got my project at work, and I'm leaving for New York for two days tomorrow morning.
And for all of you asking for photos - you'll have to wait until the weekend when I'll find my camera in my luagage.
That's all for now.
Congrats!!!
